On November 25, the S&T Diplomatic Circle Kansai explored the future of practical robotics at the TMSUK Co., Ltd. Robotics Lab in Kyoto. Located in a traditional Machiya House in the historic Nishijin district, this facility blends Kyoto’s cultural heritage with advanced technology, serving as the innovation hub for the Kyoto Humanoid Association (KyoHA).

TMSUK distinguishes itself by focusing on "workroids": practical service robots designed to coexist with humans and perform essential tasks in medical, disaster relief, and mobility sectors. The lab demonstrates how strategic collaboration with partners like Waseda University and Murata Manufacturing accelerates the development of solutions such as the "Pedia Roid," a pediatric patient simulator for medical training, and the "RODEM," a universal mobility vehicle. This approach highlights the lab’s commitment to addressing real-world societal challenges through robotics.

The diplomatic delegation engaged with Chairman Yoichi Takamoto and witnessed demonstrations of these state-of-the-art models, gaining insights into how the KyoHA consortium fosters an ecosystem for domestic humanoid innovation. The visit underscored the vital role of such collaborative hubs in shaping a future where robots support human life and labor.

Our special thanks go to Consul General Filippo Manara (Italy) and Ugo Falciola, Head of Commercial Office (Italy) for their efforts in coordinating this visit.
