On March 10, the S&T Diplomatic Circle Kansai toured Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' Hydrogen Park at Takasago Machinery Works in Hyogo. MHI representatives provided a comprehensive introduction to this groundbreaking facility, which opened in 2023 as the world's first integrated hydrogen site.

What makes Takasago Hydrogen Park unique is its complete hydrogen ecosystem—bringing together production, storage, and utilization in a single location. The site features an advanced alkaline electrolyzer with capacity to produce 1,100 normal cubic meters of hydrogen hourly. This hydrogen is stored on-site and used for clean power generation through gas turbines, creating a closed-loop demonstration of hydrogen's potential in the energy transition.

The visit offered diplomatic representatives a firsthand look at practical hydrogen applications and MHI's vision for building a hydrogen-based society. As countries worldwide explore pathways to decarbonization, facilities like this provide valuable insights into the technical and operational aspects of hydrogen infrastructure.

We thank Consul General Jason Cubas, Consul Travis Hall, and Naomi Shibui from the U.S. Consulate-General in Osaka for organizing this informative visit.
